Ursus americanus (American Black Bear)

They do not really hibernate, instead store up fat to use during inactive winter months. Black Bears usually have two cubs that stay with their mother until they are about 2 years old. Although not currently found in most of Oklahoma, it is possible that Black Bears occur in the Black Mesa area and there are known populations that live in western Arkansas.
