Habitat: Fields and grass prairies in Mixed-grass Plains, Shortgrass High Plains, and Piñon-Juniper Mesas. Habits: Western Harvest Mice live in baseball-sized nests made of grass that are placed on the ground or are suspended a few inches above the ground. They are strictly nocturnal, and eat seeds, insects, and some green vegetation. They, like the Eastern Harvest Mice, are known to huddle together for warmth. About five young are born per litter, and breeding takes place in warm summer months.
