| Odocoileus virginianus (White-tailed Deer) |
|||||||
Habits: The choice of diet is largely dependent on food availability, and thus varies with locality. Acorns are a nutritious staple during the fall and winter when competition with cattle is most intense. The white rump patch is used as a signal to communicate with other deer. They can run at speeds of up to 56 kph (35 mph) and jump obstacles 2.6 m (8.5 ft) high; they also can swim very well. |
